Abstract

This chapter describes how arts-based methods can be applied for use in consultation and research projects with children and young people who have speech, language and communication needs.  First, what constitutes an arts-based method and how it might be used in consultation and/or research is explored.  Following this, a number of arts-based activities using art tools, collages and mapping techniques are considered. Finally, literature and fieldwork undetaken by the authors is drawn upon to inform critical discussion of using arts-based techniques with children and young people with speech, language and communication needs.
